Description of the theme:

The proposed session and preliminary invited presenters will bring together sociologists representing regions of Europe and other countries. It will strengthen research efforts of all sociologists willing to discuss their research and teaching practices in the domain of environmental issues as well as theoretical topics and current professional problems dealing with ecology.

Among the issues to be discussed in presenters' papers are the following:

  • the economic and social pressure on the environment: Hobson choice?
  • the impact of climate change on rural communities, especially in northern and remote regions
  • economic assessment and psycho/semantic value of a natural landscape
  • 'small is beautiful': small-scale conservation and ecological projects in the context of cellular globalization; minimalization of effort in the time of crisis
  •  environmental and agricultural tourism as a solution of many social problems of modern age.
Presenters with papers thematically bordering this theme are invited to join.
